IT Strategy and Delivery

Case Study: Cash Equity IT Strategy

The client

A major European investment bank

The challenge

To devise an IT strategy and road-map that would: Rationalise an over-provision of IT systems resulting from a merger of three similar business units. Reduce cost-per-transaction within Equity Cash. Provide a modern, low maintenance infrastructure.

The solution

Lysis worked with the IT Director and COO of Cash Equities to define a flexible, integrated, component-based architecture to support the business over the next 3 - 5 years.

Key objectives were better information integration and better workflow, reduced cost and flexibility and volume tolerance for the future.

Key features of the architecture included an EAI backbone, J2EE components, JMS messaging, web services and XML Jon's downstream work included management of a project to design the XML-based data and MIS architecture and a second project to execute a Proof of Concept of the TIBCO EAI and workflow tools.

Assessed current business requirements and devised IT strategy to support them. Assessed future business requirements and ensured the recommended technology base had the flexibility to support them and unknown future requirements. Conducted a high-level assessment of available EAI backbones, business rules engines and workflow tools (including IBM and SeeBeyond) and managed a Proof of Concept of the TIBCoO products. Managed the development of the high-level data model and strategy for the use of XML. Developed a J2EE/JMS component-based architecture which integrated legacy and new applications.

The outcome

The strategy and implementation plans were accepted by senior management.
